When I was in high school, my friends and I were probably in Kennesaw almost weekly, whether it be to go to the mall or to see a movie or something. However, Kennesaw definitely has a lot more to do than a mall or a movie theater. Kennesaw Mountain is a great place to visit, and Kennesaw also has some great local restaurants! Located on George Busbee Parkway. The Rotisserie Shop was founded by the husband and wife duo Karla Geniso and Chris Malfitano. It is “a chef driven eatery using all natural meats and locally sourced produce.” The menu items are “rustic and humble,” and they are made with the utmost care and highest quality ingredients. You can enjoy some unique dishes like the waffle sliders. Their barbeque sauce and dry rub are also available for purchase. Open Monday – Saturday.
Located on Old 41 Highway and originally located in an old house in Downtown Kennesaw, Capers Restaurant & Bar aimed to be “a restaurant that could give diners a Buckhead/Midtown experience.” The restaurants then moved to a bigger location. The cuisine is considered to be “New American,” and all of the dishes here are either prepared by Owner Steve Dudley or one of the chefs. Try some amazing dishes such as the Hawaiian ribeye or the New Zealand lamb. Open Tuesday – Sunday.
Located in Downtown Kennesaw. Opened in 2003 by husband and wife duo Brett and Laura Olszeski, Trackside Grill & Patio Bar “features a creative chef driven kitchen serving classic comfort & southern american cuisine.” It “takes a simple approach to your favorite comfort foods.” You can enjoy Southern classics like fried chicken and catfish. There are also classic comfort foods on the menu like meatloaf and chicken pot pie. Open Tuesday – Saturday for lunch and dinner and Sundays for brunch.
Located on North Cobb Parkway. L. Marie’s Southern Cuisine offers a menu filled with recipes that “have been gathered and past down over three generations and across two families with strong roots in the South.” Try classics like fried green tomatoes, cornbread, fried chicken, and fried okra. Even alligator is on the menu! If you come on a Saturday night, live jazz music is played from 7:30 – 10:30! Open Tuesday – Friday for lunch and dinner, Saturday for dinner, and Sunday for brunch.
Located on Cherokee Street. Founded by the Dillard family, Big Shanty Smokehouse has been named by urbanspoon.com as “The Best BBQ in Atlanta.” It was featured in Atlanta Magazine as one of their top 10 best barbecue joints, and it was also featured on an episode of the Georgia Traveller television show. The delicious menu offers a variety of options such as ribs, brisket, chicken, and even smoked salmon. Classic sides like cole slaw and baked beans are offered as well, as is the delicious banana pudding for dessert. Open Tuesday – Saturday.
Located on Chastain Road. Founder Rey Regalado dreamed of opening a restaurant in America that would feature food from his native Cuba. Regalado managed to leave Cuba and come to America in 1990, and, in 2002, he was able to achieve his dream of opening his Cuban restaurant. The menu features delicious, traditional Cuban dishes like yuca con mojo, masitas de puerco, and the classic Cuban sandwich. Papi’s also caters, so you can enjoy delicious Cuban food at your next event! Open daily for lunch and dinner.
Located on Barrett Parkway close to Town Center at Cobb. Founded in 1989 by the Ippolito family, their namesake restaurant has 5 locations throughout the Metro Atlanta area, including the Kennesaw location. Ippolito’s takes pride in “providing our guests with a casual, friendly atmosphere and excellent service.” The delicious menu is filled with lots of classic Italian options, including various pasta dishes, pizza, strombolis, and calzones. Open daily for lunch and dinner.
Located on Baker Road. Open since 2007, Big Pie in the Sky is definitely a local favorite. In 2009, Big Pie in the Sky was featured on an episode of The Travel Channel’s Man Vs. Food for the Carnivore Challenge, which requires a team of 2 people to eat an 11 pound pizza in under 1 hour! If you’re not feeling up to the challenge, don’t worry! You can still order pizza by the slice or order a regular size pie. Calzones, strombolis, and subs are available as well. Open daily for lunch and dinner.

Try awesome dishes like the shrimp and grits, the Lokal angus burger, and the buffalo grilled cheese. Love tacos? Make sure to come for $2 tacos on Taco Tuesday! Wine is 50% off on Wine Wednesday, and The Lokal also offers team trivia on Thursdays at 7:00 PM. The Lokal definitely has lots to offer! Open daily from 4:00 PM – 11:00 PM.
