Music is a part of the soul even for the musically challenged (such as me). It can change our mood in a moment by hearing that song. It’s not just about the sound but how it moves you. I love that moment when the mood is perfect and the song is just right and there’s a dance floor full of people feeling exactly like you.
That’s what National Music Month is all about. It’s about sharing what makes people smile and giving people the opportunity to learn an instrument, conduct a group, or let their voice shine. Atlanta has an incredible music scene, one of the better ones I’ve experienced, don’t let that music fall on silent ears this year. Support musicians of all styles and fashions, because without music the world would be a very different way. So get out, grab a bite, sit back or rock it out, with the various live music restaurants that offer great music and food!
Modern comfort food, craft cocktails set in a warehouse space with room for live music. Venkman’s hosts an eclectic range of live music from rock and roll to soul to country. All this is curated by partners Peter Olson and Nicholas Niespodziani, who music lovers might recognize as the masterminds behind PleaseRock as well as the frontmen of Yacht Rock Revue. Some shows are free, so check out their website for what’s up and coming on their stage. Live music every night, with a dance floor. Be on the lookout for their burgers or tacos.
Snug nightclub with signature martinis, hosts live music and open mike nights. Share a table with a stranger and listen to some amazing music. Be prepared to enjoy music among serious music lovers! It’s mostly a sit down to listen venue, however, there is a tiny, postage stamp sized dance floor depending on performers. Check out their website for upcoming shows and ticketing. The martinis here are inventive and refreshing but don’t forget to grab some food too. There are personal sized pizzas, salads, wraps, and quesadillas. Check out their Friday Happy Hour, from 5 to 9 pm including drink and food specials.

The history of Juke Joints is a place for communities to kick back and unwind after work. Sweet Georgia Juke Joint is the culmination of history, music, food, drink and the celebration of socializing in the South. Serving everything from appetizers to full-sized plates for dinner.
Open since 1991, this live music restaurant has gained fame and popularity with many currently big names in music spending time here before they were who they are today. Keep in mind, that the music is serious business here, as patrons are asked to silence their cell phones and actually listen to the music with little talking during performances. Taking music seriously, this intimate setting is a sound room, designed with superior acoustics. They also serve amazing sandwiches, small plates, big bowl entrée salads and plates for sharing, with an extensive bar.
For 25 years, this has been one of the most well-known live music restaurants for jazz and blues of all types. With live acts, every day except Tuesdays, covers range from around $10 to $20 depending on the show. This venue was picked as one of three venues nationwide to unveil the Jazz Legends on US Postage Stamps. The crowd here tends toward the dress to impress side. Sweet Auburn Seafood is another one of the top live music restaurants around Atlanta and has music five days a week, starting off its weekends on Wednesday, with live music. Tuesday expect a DJ. The music here is generally known for the sounds of Jazz, R&B, and contemporary music. The history of this restaurant’s name and the area it indirectly relates back to its musical inclination. Their food (lunch, tapas, dinner, and weekend brunch), is mostly seafood based and strong on the Southern side.
Located near Landmark Arts Cinema, this relaxed but sophisticated live music restaurant is an idle, comfortable art scene of all forms. Music all week, various DJs to start off the week, with live Jazz kicking off the weekend on Wednesday. Inspired by the European dining experience, find a restaurant with beautiful food presentation and open patio. Fairy lights sparkle inside and out adding to the comfortable, artistic ambiance. Staying with the artistic theme, local artists work decorates the walls.
Two Urban Licks is known for a lot of things from the great views of Atlanta skyline, a rocking chef, great local food, innovative décor, one of a kind wine set up, to their pet-friendly patio. Adding to everything they are doing right, they also have live music Tuesday through Saturday, starting at 2 pm, and Sunday brunch live music as well. Music ranges from funky blues, rock to soul. Guests can enjoy refined comfort food while sitting back inside or on their outside patio, sipping a drink and enjoying live music. The ambiance is low key, with a welcoming vibe. Located in a very industrial complex complete with its own water tower. Bonus is skyline views!
