Paddle over to Canoe for Fun on the River

Paddle over to Canoe for Fun on the River

Canoe has been an Atlanta staple for years. The restaurant has a high class feel, while still maintaining a fun edge. A great place to host a business guest or bring the family–there is something for everyone at Canoe.

The menu at Canoe is considered modern American. Though after sitting down with Executive Chef Matthew Basford, I can tell you that along with southern influences, there is some pan-Asian style in the food. Try out the menu now and later, too. There are plans to roll out a new summer menu in July.

For those of you looking for a great summer hangout, try the river bar in the classic restaurant. The river bar is newer–only about 5 years old–and more casual. You can sit out by the river and enjoy the same delicious menu as in the restaurant.

Executive Chef Matthew Basford

The real treasure at canoe is Executive Chef Matthew Basford. Pulling from his background, Basford says he incorporates some Australian influences in his cooking. At Canoe, you’ll be able to try kangaroo and Australian octopus.canoe food

More than creating interesting dishes for his restaurant, Basford has many events coming up. For some, like the James Beard dinner in New York, he’ll be traveling. But there are plenty of local events to find him at, as well. Check out his cooking in the Springer Mountain Wing Showdown in August or at the Shepherd Center for a charity event on July 16. Or of course, you can enjoy Executive Chef Matthew Basford’s cooking anytime at Canoe.
