Interview with the Alden’s Chef Jared Hucks

Chef Jared Hucks tells us the story of how he came from across the globe back to his hometown Atlanta, and how he found an opportunity to share his findings in this humble spot in Chamblee known as The Alden.

Returning to Atlanta after 20+ years, Chef Jared Hucks created the Dogwood Table so that he can get a better idea of what Atlanteans like nowadays. However, the biggest thing that happened was a chance to team up with the current landlord of the Alden in order to create this wonderful restaurant. Located in Chamblee, the Alden is a modern American restaurant that serves contemporary, seasonal Southern cuisine. They host special dinners or classes every last Monday of the month. For example, they have done pasta classes and Middle Asia dinner where he brought all of his experiences from his travels through Southeast Asia into his dishes and talked about what he went through.

By chance, the name of the restaurant is also Chef Jared’s middle name, but the meaning behind it is more important. Alden in Old English means “old friend,” so it is always Chef Jared’s hope that when his customers visit the Alden that they are welcomed as friends and will be back again soon. The fact that the kitchen is opened adds to this fact because just like good friends, the Alden has nothing to hide.
