Gluten-free grub at Grub Burger Bar

Gluten-free grub at Grub Burger Bar

Grub Burger Bar opened its second location in Druid Hills this month offering burgers, shakes (regular and spiked), and booze in a bright environment where an emphasis is placed on serving real food with a creative edge.

The restaurant offers gluten-free buns from Pure Knead ($2 up charge), their sweet potato fries are prepared in a separate fryer, and they offer a selection of vegetarian options that include salads. Although their menu isn’t marked to indicate which items is gluten free, their staff is well trained and can guide guests to safe choices.

Their burgers are served medium rare and they a combination of certified Angus chuck and brisket, which is ground in house daily. The cheese is sliced/shredded fresh and the homemade sauces add character to the whole experience.

Upon arriving, orders are placed up front, a number is issued, and guests find a seat. It was unexpected and quite nice to have table service where everything from extra sauce, drink refills, napkins, etc. is handled with a smile. Their bar selection includes beer on draft and by the bottle, wine, cocktails, margaritas, and boozy shakes.

I ordered a burger on a Pure Knead bun topped with grilled onions and lettuce, sweet potato fries, and a black bean and charred corn medley salad. My burger had a lovely pink middle, it was juicy, and it had a nice char. The grilled onions were a lovely shade of brown from the balsamic vinegar, sugar, unsalted butter and kosher salt used to prepare them. Our table server brought out their jalapeno ranch dressing for fries and it was a fabulous slightly spicy/creamy addition.

With no need to leave the table unless we needed to use the restrooms, the restaurant offers a comfortable environment to enjoy a game (televisions in bar can easily be seen) inside, or on their spacious patio.

Grub Burger Bar is the closest place to home with the whole package of: quality burgers, gluten-free bun, fries, and other choices, so we will definitely be back. I do hope the restaurant will create a gluten-free menu to make ordering easier for their patrons following a gluten-free diet.
