Join us Saturday to taste mainstays, California Pinot Noir and French Chardonnay, and then we travel to Italy for Friulano and Refosco. These make wonderfully refreshing wines, some of my favorites in the summer!
Friuli-Venezia Giulia, in northeast Italy, is influenced by its location between the Alps and the Adriatic and known for smaller-production winemakers. Wines are typically fresh and fruity. The region’s best white grape, Friulano, often has mineral and almond notes. As for the red variety, you don’t want to ignore Refosco. The most common sub-variety is named Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, which translates to "Refosco with the red stalks". The wines have intense fruit laced with minerality.
