11 Summer Events for the Start of August

And so it begins, where people start heading back to school this week. Some may be back in school already and others will be heading back in the next few weeks. All in all, summer is ending soon. That’s why we want to make sure you have the biggest amount of fun you can have before going back. Therefore, we have a list of 11 summer events for the beginning of August. We hope you have some fun before heading back to school or even work.

Tuesday, August 7

Introducing Summer Winemaker Dinner | Atlas Restaurant | 6:30 pm 

Atlas will kick off the Summer Winemaker Dinner Series on Tuesday, August 7th with Veuve Clicquot. Champagne lovers will revel in the luxurious five-course “Pop-Up in Paris” pairing dinner in the Library. With limited seating available, guests will be welcomed with a glass of Veuve Rich Rosé during an opening reception following by an evening exploring NV Rosé, 2006 La Grand Dame, Extra Brut Extra Old, 2008 Brut Rosé, and Demi Sec. Chef Grossman’s inspired seasonal pairing menu will also be crafted just for the occasion. The Paris winemaker’s dinner is $275 person excluding tax and gratuity.

Bar Wars | Cowtippers | 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

A friendly mixology competition between local bars/restaurants to see who will raise the most online and through their tip jar – all proceeds benefitting AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run. No admission fee for event. Admission requires $10 buy in of tokens for topping. 1 token = $1. The address is 1600 Piedmont Ave NE Atlanta, Ga

Wednesday, August 8

Atlanta Scotch Club | Rootstock and Vine | 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Atlanta Scotch Club presents. It’s the Second Wednesday of the month and you know what that means! We welcome back our good friend, Jack Smith, of the Atlanta Scotch Club for our monthly tasting of some of the quality spirits at Rootstock and Vine! This month we have a Fantastic Selection of Bourbons and Ryes to sample with Chef Todd providing some lite snacks of course! We are taking a very American theme with our tastings in August and it will be a night to remember.

Wine Class – Italian Wines | The Gifted Ferret | 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

At the Gifted Ferret, our classes will benefit those who are just beginning to learn about wine and those who know their way around a cellar as well. Our Italian Wines Course will provide you with a deep look into the wine making in Italy throughout all its regions. Tasting wine will be an integral part of all classes. You will learn how to describe the nose and taste as you explore 6 different wines. After this class you will be ready to head out to a great Italian dinner and be able to select a great wine with your meal. Sit back at our warm and comfortable community wine table, relax, meet new friends and get ready for a great experience. Our approach is simple, come prepared to learn, but most of all – be prepared to have fun.

Saturday, August 11

Boozy Summer Cupcake Pop-up | Delights by Dawn | 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

Join us at The Curb Market for our Pop Up with some old and new Summer cupcake flavors. These summery flavors are infused with alcohol flavors that scream summer, Orange, Lemon, Key Lime to name a few. These are seasonal flavors and won’t be available for long as we near the end of Summer. Join us to experience our gourmet infused cupcakes and our Rum cake slices!

Everclear Pre-Concert Free Artisan Wine Tasting | The Gifted Ferret | 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Whether or not you’re attending the next Woodstock’s concert at the Northside Hospital Cherokee Amphitheater featuring Everclear in concert, come out for our free wine tasting Saturday Night starting prior to the concert from 6-8pm. Plenty of time to relax, chill out with 6 tastings of new wines before heading to the Park at City Center.

Atlanta Summer Festival | City Winery – Atlanta | 12:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Atlanta Wine Festivals hosts the Atlanta Summer Wine Festival at City Winery Atlanta on Saturday, August 11th with two sessions to choose from. 12pm-4pm and 6-10pm. 50+ Wines, small beer selection, live music, and a DJ. Tickets include entry, entertainment, a souvenir acrylic wine glass, and all wine and beer samples. Food will be available for purchase.

Decatur BBQ, Blues, & Bluegrass Festival | Harmony Park | 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm

One of Atlanta’s favorite festivals, the Decatur BBQ, Blues & Bluegrass Festivals brings some of the South’s best BBQ together with great live blues and bluegrass music from local and national artists. Come celebrate the end of summer with the Decatur BBQ, Blues & Bluegrass Festival.

Slow Food Atlanta’s 12th Annual Ice Cream Social | Cathedral of St. Phillips | 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! It’s that time of year for Atlanta’s coolest and sweetest summer tradition: Slow Food Atlanta’s 12th Annual Ice Cream Social. A collaboration with Peachtree Road Farmers Market, this year’s event will take place on Saturday, August 11, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. inside Child Hall at The Cathedral of St. Philip. Cool down and vote on your favorite ice cream flavor created by local chefs and ambitious amateurs – all partnering with local farmers to bring fresh, summer ingredients into every spoonful.

Sunday, August 12

Discover Spain Wine & Festival | Vino Venue | 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Discover the best of Spain one bite or sip at a time with admission to Vino Venue’s Wine and Culinary Experience. Throughout this two hour walk-around festival, a multitude of different wines from Spain will be accompanied by unlimited samplings of fresh and flavorful cuisine, including live Chef stations! With a diverse selection of Spanish wines at this high-energy culinary tribute to one of the world’s premier wine regions, guests will have the opportunity to explore quintessential varieties from bubbly – reds, with all styles and tastes in between. To give guests the ability to extend their enjoyment, the wines and products will be available for purchase during the event. Our guest count will be limited in size, and this festival WILL SELL OUT in advance.
